Over the past few weeks we have looked at Matariki as a scientific focus which brought this learning together in our wonderful production earlier this term. Now we are shifting our focus to the celebration itself specifically the sharing of stories (through legends).
We have read:
Rona and the Moon
The Fish of Maui
How Maui slowed the Sun
We are learning to re-tell a legend, understanding that we can put the story into our own words then share it with others.
An early morning for many as we gathered at Clyde Quay School Hall. The sky was overcast so unfortunately no viewing of Matariki however the gathering of our local community with students, teachers, parents and visitors was a fantastic way to see in the Maori New Year.
Korero and a shared kai completed the morning. A big thank you to those who shared.
We were lucky enough to showcase our dancing moves this afternoon with Footsteps. We talked about the various styles of dancing and participated in a hip hop jam. We practiced set moves, repeating these moves with and without music. Then combined all the moves to create a dancing piece.
Everyone had a good boogie and exerted some energy!
As the Production draws closer (next week)... We are continuing to work together and practice our parts in the show. We each have a role to play and are showing great perseverance.
Perseverance is when...

The Harakeke and Pohutukawa Production is coming up. We are organising the parts we will be, as well as doing lots of singing.
Today we painted the planets, the Sun and the Moon. We were very busy working together to create a base of colour. Next we will be decorating the planets…
