Counting Backwards

In Maths we are continuing to count backwards, understanding that numbers have a sequence (an order).

We understand that when we count backwards we are counting down from a number. This helps us to work out the number before and is helping us with word problems when using subtraction.

We all learn at different levels some of us are counting back from 20, some from 100 and others from 1000.

Production Songs

In Pohutukawa this week we are continuing our focus on Matariki.
We practiced the songs for the up and coming Harakeke and Pohutukawa Production.  We visited Harakeke and sung many songs together. We also thought about the various roles we can have within the show.

Checkout the Solar System Song we are singing:

As well as the Solar System Rap:

Have a sing along at home if you wish!

Matariki waiata

Here are the lyrics to our latest song we've been learning about Matariki.  Here is a link to the sound version to learn the tune.

Waitī, Waitā, Waipunarangi,
Tupu-ā-nuku, Tupu-ā-rangi, Ururangi e
Koinei ngā tamariki o Matariki
(These are the children of Matariki)
Ngā whetū e pīataata i te rangi e
(The bright stars that shine in the sky)
Ngā whetū e pīataata i te rangi e
(The bright stars that shine in the sky)

Our Inquiry this term is Matariki.

As a class we have explored our sun, our moon, the Earth, the stars and the solar system we live in.  We have enjoyed finding out about space and our place in the universe.

In two groups we visited Space Place in Kelburn to reinforce our learning, further our knowledge and to have some fun in the process.

Thanks to all our parent helpers, great to have so many volunteers.
